Heterogeneous information systems (IS) creates difficulties to automatically integrate data in different IS environment. These situations have increased operating and maintenance costs as well as wasteful data storage, which is caused by data redundancy. Since the emerging of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), the latest trend in IS development, many researchers have proposed various SOA conceptual models and frameworks. The main objective behind these efforts was to provide a guideline for a successful SOA adoption. In Malaysia, higher learning institutions have taken some initiatives to implement SOA-based systems to improve the quality of IS performance. However, most of the existing SOA frameworks available are still lacking of good design to support an integration of heterogeneous IS. In order to fill this gap, this study was conducted to seek for an opportunity to enhance the existing SOA implementation frameworks of heterogeneous IS integration. A consolidation of the existing related frameworks and consensus from experts yield a new SOA framework. A case study approach in a Malaysia public university was applied to test and validate the framework by conducted prototyping experiments with the focus on several student information systems. The evaluation from the users shows that the proposed framework has met SOA criteria like service based, data update in real time and accessibility. This finding has been proven with successful prototype experiments. With the findings and results of this study, an enhancement of SOA implementation framework was fulfilled by focusing on integrating heterogeneous IS. This is a new contribution SOA domain in the context of heterogeneous IS integration in Malaysia public universities

The general purpose of this research is to determine the basic level of Competence of vocational teachers in understanding the Curriculum in 2013 in Bengkulu City. The specific purpose of this research is: (1) To find out the level of professional Competence of vocational teachers in understanding the Curriculum in 2013 in Bengkulu City; (b) To find out the level of pedagogic Competence of vocational teachers in understanding the Curriculum in 2013 in Bengkulu City; (c) To find out the level of personality competence of vocational teachers in understanding the Curriculum in 2013 in Bengkulu City; (d) To find out the level of social Competence of vocational teachers in understanding the 2013 curriculum in Bengkulu City. This research method uses a descriptive-analytical research approach. This research wants to describe the basic competency level of vocational teachers in understanding the Curriculum in 2013. This research place is at SMK in Bengkulu City. The population in this research were all vocational teachers in Bengkulu City. This research sample relates to the level of Competence of vocational teachers in understanding the Curriculum in 2013, amounting to 50 teachers. Sampling is used using random sampling techniques with lottery techniques—data collection techniques using questionnaires and documents. Questionnaires are used to trace data on the basic level of Competence of vocational teachers in understanding the Curriculum in 2013. To see and prove that the questionnaire is valid is done expert validation. The document was used to collect data on the number of teachers in SMK Kota Bengkulu. After the data is verified, processed with statistical percentage techniques, analyzed, and made conclusions. The study concluded that: (1) The level of pedagogical Competence of teachers of SMK Kota Bengkulu in understanding the Curriculum in 2013 amounted to 52% (Very UnderstandingUnderstanding) and 48% (Sufficient Understanding); (2) The level of professional Competence of teachers of SMK Kota Bengkulu in understanding the Curriculum in 2013 amounted to 31.5% (Sufficient Understanding) and 68.5 % (Very UnderstandingUnderstanding); (3) The level of personality competence of teachers of SMK Kota Bengkulu in understanding the Curriculum in 2013 amounted to 17.3% (Sufficient Understanding) and 82.6 % (Very UnderstandingUnderstanding); (4) The level of social Competence of teachers of SMK Kota Bengkulu in understanding the Curriculum in 2013 amounted to 42.4% (Sufficient Understanding) and 56.6% (Very UnderstandingUnderstanding)

Embarking service-oriented architecture into student information systems

Most organizations have more than one information system (IS) for their data and activity management. In Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), the Computer Centre is responsible for various IS related to students. However, none of these systems are fully interoperable in heterogeneous IS because they are using different types of database and programming language. This causes difficulties to automatically integrate data in the heterogeneous IS.As a result, the person in charge at each IS needs to do manual selections to get data from other IS. Consequently, the same tasks will be repeated since they have to enter and re enter similar data into different IS.In addition, this situation is increased the operation and maintenance cost, and waste the data storage space caused by the redundancy of data. Even though UUM has an IS that uses an integration tool for updating required data from the main student IS, it is still unable to update concurrent data on real-time and it needs one tool installed for each two IS to be integrated. This study aims to propose a conceptual model of the heterogeneous IS integration based on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) concept.A case study approach was applied involving student IS in UUM because IS in a university are large, distributed and quite difficult to involve the whole IS with very limited time and cost.In validating the proposed conceptual model, this study uses experimental of prototyping and experts review. With the finding and result of this study, it is expected to produce a valid conceptual model of student IS based on SOA concept.Further, the model could serve as a guideline to related organizations in adopting SOA concept in improving the management of their IS integration

Sifon’s Tradition is the tradition of circumcision to men over the age of 17 years old and they had sexual intercourse. The uniqueness of ritual circumcision of Atoni Pah Meto’s tribe in East Nusa Tenggara province is on the healing process of wounds from circumcision, that is by having sexual relations with a woman who not his wife or a close family member, or a woman who will not be married to a man who have Sifon’s ritual. The Sifon’s Tradition have a potential conflict, either between women , indigenous peoples of Atoni Pah Meto, nor the State Law. This research aimed to know the position of the Sifon’s Tradition in the Legal System of Indonesian Positive Law, analized conflict and other forms of conflict resolution caused by Sifon’s Tradition, with disputed positions of Sifon’s Tradition in the Legal System of Indonesian Positive Law; potential conflicts and forms of conflict resolution caused by Sifon’s Tradition, viewed from the perspective of Feminism and Positivism. This research is a Feminist Law in socio-legal perspective, using legal methods doctrinal and non-doctrinal legal methods. The research proves that Sifon’s Tradition is the Tribal Law of Atoni Pah Meto, which legitimized the structural oppression women of Atoni Pah Meto’s tribe. Sifon’s Tradition also violated the State Law, which deals with offenses morality, adultery, trafficking of women, and human rights. One resolution of the conflict is by using of Responsive Law

Kelulut honey (KH) is a type of honey with various pharmacological properties that can be found in Malaysia. Nevertheless, the safety aspects of this honey have not been adequately addressed. This study evaluated the developmental toxicity of KH from Trigona sp on zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos. Viable zebrafish embryos at 3 hours post fertilization (hpf) (early stage) and 24 hpf (organ development stage) were treated with KH (1 to 20 mg/mL). The embryos were examined for morphological abnormalities and viability until 96 h of KH treatment. Coagulated embryos were identified after treatment with KH (≥10 mg/mL) for 3 hpf group and KH (≥12 mg/mL) for 24 hpf group. The LC50 values of KH at 96 h of exposure for the 3 hpf and 24 hpf group were 12.52 and 16.36 mg/mL, respectively. The maximum allowable concentration (MAC) for KH on 3 hpf and 24 hpf group were 0.63 and 0.82 mg/mL, respectively. The irregular cardiac rate of the embryos was noted at 10 mg/mL for 3 hpf group and 13 mg/mL of KH for 24 hpf group. In summary, the early stage embryo (3 hpf group) was more sensitive to KH than the one of later stage (24 hpf group). It indicates that serious precautions should be taken into account in the use of any material including natural product, be it food or supplement, especially in the early stage of life
